Page Tab Reference
Reference guide for Global Page settings, including dimensions, margins, and backgrounds.
The Page Tab is your starting point for any new template. It controls the global settings that apply to the entire PDF document, such as page size, orientation, and background images.
Page Size & Orientation
Use this section to define the physical dimensions of your output PDF.
Presets
PDF Mail Engine includes standard sizes for business and personal use:
- International: A3, A4, A5, A6
- North America: Letter, Legal
- Japanese: B4 (JIS), B5 (JIS), B6 (JIS), Hagaki
Orientation
Switch between Portrait (Vertical) and Landscape (Horizontal).
Values Swapped
Switching orientation automatically swaps your Width and Height values.
Custom Size
If your desired size is not listed, select Custom and enter exact dimensions in mm (millimeters).
Margins
Margins define the "safe area" of your document. While they help visually guide your design, they also play a critical role in pagination.
Top & Bottom Margins
The Top and Bottom margins define the printable vertical area.
- Auto-Pagination: If a Group Table or a Relative element grows too long and hits the Bottom Margin, the engine automatically creates a new page.
- The content continues at the Top Margin of the next page.
Pagination Logic
Dynamic content (like long tables) will NOT overflow into the bottom margin. Ensure your bottom margin is large enough to accommodate footers if you are using manual absolute positioning for them.
Left & Right Margins
The Left and Right margins primarily serve as visual guides in the designer.
- No Force Wrap: Text elements do not automatically wrap at the Right margin. You must set the Width of text elements explicitly to control wrapping.
- Default Offset: When you add new elements, they may default to aligning with the Left margin.
Background PDF
You can set a static PDF file as the background for your template. This is perfect for using company letterheads, pre-printed invoices, or complex graphic designs created in tools like Illustrator.
Fit Settings
Control how your background PDF scales:
- Contain: Scales the image to fit entirely within the page (may leave whitespace).
- Cover: Scales the image to fill the entire page, cropping edges if necessary.
- Fill: Stretches the image to match the page dimensions exactly (may distort aspect ratio).
First Page Only
The Background PDF applies only to the first page of the document. If your data spans multiple pages, subsequent pages will have a blank background. This approach is designed for "Cover Sheet" style layouts.
Fonts
You can manage the custom fonts available for your template here.
- Click Add Font to upload
.ttfor.otffiles. - Once added, these fonts become available in the Style Tab for any Text element.
Technical Details
Asset Storage
When you upload a Background PDF or a Font, the file is automatically copied to your Workspace.
- Path:
<Workspace>/profiles/<ProfileName>/assets/ - Portability: Because assets are stored within the profile folder, you can backup or move the entire Profile folder without breaking links to these files.
Absolute vs Relative Positioning
- Absolute Elements: Ignore margins completely. They are placed exactly at the X/Y coordinates you specify.
- Relative Elements: Flow naturally. They respect the Bottom Margin for page breaking.
